Zumba has hit the UK by storm and is fast becoming a popular way to work-out because it’s not just an excellent form of exercise but it’s also great fun too! So if you’re looking for things to do in Gloucester, then come on down to one of our Zumba classes at our Spirit Health Club to find out what all the fuss is about.

Originating in Colombia in the 1990s, Zumba was born when a fitness instructor forgot to bring his usual workout music to class, so he quickly fetched some of his favourite Latin albums from his car and instructed his exercise class to follow him as he danced the same way he would in a nightclub. As his class followed along, they started to really enjoy it, and thus Zumba was born!

Nowadays, Zumba is a lot more structured and it has been designed as a whole body workout with simple dance moves which start from the hips and includes aerobic style step counts. On average, a 40 minute Zumba class burns 370 calories, so we can see why it’s such a favourite among our guests and Spirit Health Club members in our gym.

Zumba really appeals to people who are shy when it comes to exercise. This is because of the light-hearted nature of Zumba classes, the fun, bouncy music and the easy to learn routines that don’t require a lot of concentration to perform. For those who have two left feet, Zumba can still be a fun and rhythmic way to burn off some calories and have a good time!
